From Rebel to Eco-Conscious Crafter
Ever rebel against learning a skill, only to fall head-over-heels for it later? That's my story with sewing!
I'm Sadie, the one-woman show behind Sewn by Sadie Bee. Based in Yorkshire with my husband and daughter, I wear many hats: creator, maker, photographer, admin, CEO, and yes, even the tea maker! (Multitasking is a must in this solopreneur life!)
While my journey with sewing started later than most, it's become like a cherished family member. Initially self-taught with a dear friend's guidance, I later honed my skills with the amazing Alison, a professional sewing guru.
Sustainability Awakening
As my passion for sewing grew, so did my awareness of the environmental impact of the textile industry. The realisation hit me like a bolt of eco-friendly fabric – I was simply swapping fast fashion for "fast sewing." It was time for a change.
Sewing with Conscience
From that moment, I pledged to be a mindful maker. I source, unwanted fabrics - destined for landfill - and breathe new life into them through my creations. Think #upcycled denim handbags, reading cushions with built-in book pockets (perfect for snuggling little bookworms!), and even personalised tote bags and soon clothing.
Sewn by Sadie Bee Blooms
Thanks to supportive friends and my ever-encouraging husband, a seed was sown (pun intended!). Dismissing the initial "not good enough" doubts, I took a leap and launched Sewn by Sadie Bee.
The journey has been incredible! From the success of personalised tote bags to the popularity of the Coronation crowns, I've seen the joy my creations bring.
Looking Forward
As Sewn by Sadie Bee continues to grow, I'm excited about the future. This blog will be a place to share my sewing adventures, tips, and maybe a sprinkle of inspiration (with a promise to keep the sustainability talk engaging, not overwhelming!).
